Baptism is a symbol of our union with Christ, the forgiveness of our sins, and our reception of the Holy Spirit. It is by immersion in water and is contingent on an affirmation of faith in Jesus and evidence of repentance of sin. It follows instruction in the Holy Scriptures and acceptance of their teachings.
We are glad Jose and Tinito were baptized by Pastor Eugene last Sabbath, June 26 at the Grapevine lake. Their individual testimonies are as follows:
"The question that led me to my Baptism and journey with Christ was what happens after death? Looking for an answer it eventually lead to me taking Bible studies. Learning about the history and philosophy in the Bible killed whatever doubt I had. In the end my journey led me to Jesus and I haven’t regretted a thing about it."
"I grew up in a Catholic home and have always believed in God, however, I never knew why I believed in Him. Later in life when I met my wife, she began teaching me about Christ and salvation. Overtime, I began developing a relationship with God. There were always moments in life when I felt defeated or troubled and I would begin praying. I would make myself vulnerable to the Lord and in each of those moments God responded to me in a way He knew I would understand.
Recently, I reflected over my life and questioned why God has blessed someone as unworthy as I am. I decided that I needed to seek out God fully. I began Bible studies with Mrs. Akar, who is a real testimony of the love that God has. During these Bible studies I learned of God’s true nature and His unconditional love for everyone. When I look at the loved ones that God has surrounded me with, I think to myself, I love all of these people. I would give my life for any one of them! Jesus has already done that for me. It was God’s unconditional love for us that made him sacrifice his only son to save us all. This is when I knew I was ready to follow in Jesus’s steps, accept him as my savior, and take the plunge to get baptized!
God has been guiding me every step of the way knowing exactly how I would pursue Him and search for the truth. Now I know why I believe in God. I believe because God is with me, in everything I have ever done. I feel His unconditional love and have felt the Holy Spirit within me. When I pray for strength or to give my gratitude, He responds. I believe because when I started searching, He paved the road for me."
